Buffalo Fire Department recognized as Highmark Community Hero during Bills Game

Buffalo, N.Y. (October 16, 2023) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recognized the Buffalo Fire Department as the Highmark Community Hero during last night’s game against the NY Giants.

Highmark celebrated the first responders within Buffalo Fire Fighters as part of their ongoing collaboration with the Buffalo Bills to raise awareness around the life-saving benefits of CPR and AED training. The theme of Sunday’s game was HeartBEAT.

On average the Buffalo Fire Department responds to over 900 CPR calls every year. It is the principal fire and rescue service for the city of Buffalo, New York, providing fire protection and other critical public safety services, including Emergency Management Services (EMS) to residents.

The BFD also works to continually upgrade fire apparatuses and technology, educate the public in fire prevention, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes, while ensuring a safe and secure environment to all citizens and visitors through professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and partnership with all levels of Government.

In addition to the in-game recognition, the Buffalo Fire Department is also receiving a $2,500 donation to continue its efforts to upgrade fire apparatuses and technology, educate the public in fire prevention, life safety and disaster preparedness.
