Big Big Table recognized as Highmark Community Hero during Bills game
Buffalo, N.Y. (October 26, 2023) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recognized local nonprofit, Big Big Table as the Highmark Community Hero during tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As part of the Buffalo Bills Huddle for Hunger initiative, Highmark honored Big Big Table for its efforts to ensure food security for everyone in the community, especially the most vulnerable.
Big Big Table Community Café opened in 2021, with a different model from typical restaurants where guests exchange an advertised amount of money for their meal. At Big Big table, guests can exchange time, groceries, or money for their meal. This pay-as-you-can model provides a dignified and more equitable response to food and nutrition insecurity.
In addition to the in-game recognition, the health plan also awarded Big Big Table a $2,500 donation to continue its efforts to enhance access to healthy, local food options for all, while reducing food waste.
