Highmark Inc. subsidiaries to Give $575,000 for education in Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH (June 28, 2022) - Students across the Commonwealth will benefit from $575,000 in grants awarded by Highmark Inc. subsidiaries through Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs.

The Highmark subsidiaries funding the grants are HM Insurance Group and United Concordia Dental.  The $575,000 in funding supports a variety of scholarships, including $275,000 for pre-K scholarships and $150,000 for scholarships to provide alternate educational opportunities for children who live in areas with low-achieving schools.

“Highmark companies know that education tremendously affects the health and resilience of communities.  We are committed to improving educational outcomes for children throughout the state and believe in the value that will be provided through these contributions,” said Dan Onorato, executive vice president & Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Highmark Health. “We are proud to continue our support of Pennsylvania's EITC and OSTC programs to support students and families as they strive to live happier and healthier lives.”

The EITC and OSTC programs are available to Pennsylvania businesses paying any one of six specific state taxes and applying for participation to the program's administrator, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

Highmark companies have provided more than $19 million dollars to support education through the EITC and OSTC programs over the past 15 years.
