During the Covid-19 pandemic, a public health emergency (PHE) was set in place in March 2020. During this time, Medicaid members were not required to complete annual renewal paperwork to show proof of eligibility. The unwinding of continuous coverage is occurring over a 12-month period starting in April 2023.  

If you no longer meet the qualifications for Medicaid, you may still qualify for Special Enrollment Period (SEP) and receive coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

If you’ve lost your Medicaid coverage due to a qualifying event such as moving, getting married, having a baby, or household income changes, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. This means you can choose a plan that fits your life right away.

Depending on your Special Enrollment Period type (related to a qualifying life event), you may have 60 days before or 60 days following the event to enroll in a plan. You can enroll in a plan as early as 60 days before your Medicaid or CHIP coverage ends to avoid any gaps in your health coverage.

You may qualify for financial assistance through the online Marketplace based on your age, income, or family size. Plans purchased directly through Highmark don’t offer financial assistance, but offer additional benefits.
