Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health seeks substance use program grant applications

New RFP Offered to W.Va. Non-Profits Focused on Combating SUD Epidemic

Parkersburg, W.Va. (February 7, 2022) – Officials from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health today announced it is accepting grant proposals for West Virginia-based programs and initiatives that address Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The Request for Proposals (RFP) is open to health, community and social service organizations that specifically address SUDs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2022.

The Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health will award $500,000 dollars in grant funding to individual West Virginia-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations between $50,000- $100,000 each to support initiating effective SUD health programs and services or expanding existing services that offer viable approaches to prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and support for long-term recovery.

“The new SUD RFP supports Highmark Health’s multipronged opioid strategy to combat addiction, which is a real struggle many West Virginians face,” said Highmark West Virginia President Jim Fawcett. “Our strategy is a comprehensive approach that emphasizes primary prevention, safe prescribing, high-quality and accessible addiction treatment, and community support. We are thrilled to lend our support to organizations that are doing tremendous, life-changing work to help end the SUD epidemic in West Virginia.”

This is the third RFP the Charitable Fund has offered within its inaugural year. The Charitable Fund has already awarded $1.3 million in major grants to 39 organizations that implement programs to address Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and Oral/Dental Care. SDoH and Oral Care grants are aimed to improve health outcomes in priority health areas, such as community health, family health, access to care, service delivery systems, chronic disease and oral health.

The SUD RFP is available at www.highmarkwvfund.versaic.com.  Interested non-profit organizations must apply by Wednesday, March 30, 2022 and grantees will be announced May 2022.
